A small signal for more thoughtful communication

Authorship Signals is an independent project proposing a shared language for voluntary authorship disclosure. It helps people explain how a message was created while taking responsibility for the result.

An initiative by Sarah L. Hopkins

The project is attributed to Sarah L. Hopkins, whose work connects people, AI-era workforce design, governance, and executive judgment. The same practical question runs through this initiative: when people and AI work together, who exercises judgment and owns the result?

Read more about Sarah's work on her website. The attribution is not a claim that she has independently verified the messages carrying these signals.

Make something useful

Choose the signal that matches your message, add your contact details, and copy the finished signature into your email settings. The signature kit includes all five designs, light/dark and monochrome artwork, email templates, and plain-text examples. No account is required.

An open idea, without a seal of approval

The five categories describe different practices. They do not rank people or tools, detect AI, guarantee accuracy, or certify a workflow. Governed AI can involve automated controls without individual human review; the sender must describe the controls actually used.

The project is not an accredited standards body or a certification organization. The artwork and supplied materials are MIT licensed.
